Community Causes Battle it Out for Final Awards

27 October 2011

Sixteen community projects go head to head this week in the battle for funds from St John’s Shopping Centre’s Community Chest.

With only £1702 left in the chest for this year, competition is fierce with the 16 project applicants looking for a total of £8442 in funds.

Voting closes at midday on Friday 28th October and to date, almost 1400 votes have been cast on an array of projects ranging from repairs to the floor used by the Fair City Rollers, to kitchen equipment for Moncrieffe Primary School.

Local citizens can read about the individual projects and vote for who they think should get the funding on the shopping centre’s facebook page at www.facebook.com/stjshopping

Community Chest launched in February and was designed to be accessible and offer small funding opportunities for those local community groups and projects who may find lottery grant systems too time onerous or who may be looking for smaller amounts of money to make their projects come to life.

Siobhan McConnell, St John’s Shopping Centre manager, commented “The response we have had to this year’s Community Chest has been fantastic and we’ve already helped a great many clubs and organisations fulfill their needs with much needed funding. Voting closes at midday this Friday and we encourage everyone to pop online and cast their vote if they haven’t done so already.”
