Three more community groups in Perthshire are celebrating the receipt of Community Chest Awards, a scheme which is being run by St John’s Shopping Centre in Perth.
In the final of three funding rounds, a total of £1550 has been awarded to three local groups to assist with a variety of needs ranging from tennis balls to football kits.
The award winners, who have been notified of their success this week, are:
• Fair City Rollers (449 votes): £350 award for repairs to an indoor roller track
• Burrelton Tennis Club (448 votes): £500 award for new tennis balls and a table tennis table.
• Jeanfield Swifts Blacks Youth Football Club U13’s (343 votes): £700 award for a new outdoor kit.
Over 2200 votes were cast, many of them on St John’s Shopping Centre’s Facebook page, with the remaining votes submitted manually. With over 1240 votes cast for the three award winners, it was clear which projects the members of the Perthshire public wanted to support.
Siobhan McConnell, St John’s Shopping Centre manager, commented “This was an amazingly popular funding round with well over 2000 votes cast and only one vote between the first and second place award winner, it was a very close run. Once again we are delighted that we can help make such a difference to three local community groups, as well as raise awareness of all the fantastic projects that are going on in and around Perthshire.”
St John’s Shopping Centre announced the move to open up its coffers to worthy local community projects earlier this year. The 2011“Community Chest”, contained £5,000 for requests from the local community and a total of 10 groups have received much needed funding over the course of the year including the following organisations:
• Burrelton & Woodside Senior Club (138 votes): £300 award for new games tables
• SLS Baton Twirlers (94 votes): £500 award for new batons
• 73rd West Carse Scout Group (81 votes): £720 award for a patrol tent, flysheet and separators.
• Perth Phoenix Basketball Club (105 votes): £500 award for new strips and tracksuits
