Café Central becomes one of the first to go plastic-free

Café Central have become the first Perth City Centre business to make the #PlasticFreePerthshire Pledge!

Café Central have now switched to using paper straws, compostable takeaway cups and paper bag for customers who choose to take their food away. They also offer a discount on all takeaway drinks for anyone with a reusable cup. The café has also recently signed up to the Refill App, where anyone can get their water bottle topped up free of charge to further reduce plastic pollution in the City Centre.

Plastic Free Perthshire is a project helping businesses and communities in the area reduce the use of single-use plastics. It has produced a guide for businesses which sets out solutions to help reduce the use of plastic straws, takeaway cups and plastic bottles and use environmentally-friendly alternatives. The project comes as the Scottish Government seeks to introduce a deposit return scheme for bottles, as well as a possible ban on plastic straws. Perth & Kinross Council are also considering how to reduce the use of plastic straws, cups and bottles.

To find out how your business can make the plastic free pledge or for more information on Plastic Free Perthshire please contact Jamie Wylie at plasticfreeperthshire@gmail.com or on Twitter @PFPerthshire
